Morning Prayer: Being Rooted in God Leads to Gratitude
The Call to Prayer
Let everything that has breath praise YHWH! Alleluia!
Psalm 150:6
The Request for Presence
May God be merciful to us and bless us. Show us the light of Your countenance and come to us!
Psalm 67:1
The Greeting
I will give thanks to you, O God, with my whole heart; I will tell of your marvelous works!
I will be glad and rejoice in you, I will sing praise to your Name, Most High!
Psalm 9:1-2
The Song
You give life, You are love, You bring light to the darkness
You give hope, You restore, every heart that is broken
Great are You, Lord
It's Your breath in our lungs, so we pour out our praise, we pour out our praise
It's Your breath in our lungs, so we pour out our praise to You only
You give life, You are love, You bring light to the darkness
You give hope, You restore, every heart that is broken
Great are You, Lord
It's Your breath in our lungs, so we pour out our praise, we pour out our praise
It's Your breath in our lungs, so we pour out our praise to You only
And all the earth will shout Your praise, our hearts will cry, these bones will sing
Great are You, Lord
David Leonard, Jason Ingram, Leslie Jordan
The Refrain
Give thanks for YHWH’s goodness; God’s love endures forever!
Psalm 107:1
The Psalm
Happiness comes to those who reject the path of violence, who refuse to associate with lawbreakers or even sit with people who belittle others.
Happiness comes to those who delight in the Law of YHWH and meditate on it day and night.
They are like trees planted by flowing water—
They bear fruit in every season, and their leaves never wither: everything they do will prosper.
But not wrongdoers! They are chaff that the wind blows away.
They won’t have a taproot to anchor them when judgement comes, nor will corrupt individuals be given a place at the Gathering of the Just.
YHWH watches over the steps of those who do justice;
But those on a path of violence and injustice will find themselves irretrievably lost.
Psalm 1
The Refrain
Give thanks for YHWH’s goodness; God’s love endures forever!
Psalm 107:1
A Reading
YHWH says: “Cursed are those who trust in human ways, who rely on human strength, whose hearts turn away from YHWH.
They are like scrub in the wastelands: when good comes, it does not affect them since they live in parched places of the desert, uninhabited, salt land.
Blessed are those who put their trust in God, with God for their hope.
They are like a tree planted by the river that thrusts its roots toward the stream. When the heat comes it has nothing to fear; its leaves stay green. It is untroubled in a year of drought, and never stops bearing fruit.”
Jeremiah 17:5-8
The Refrain
Give thanks for YHWH’s goodness; God’s love endures forever!
Psalm 107:1

The Lord’s Prayer
The Prayer Appointed for the Day
Gracious and most merciful God, thank you that you are the source of all gratitude. Thank you that when we are rooted in you, we will be able to see the goodness you bring into our lives, that we will always be able to bear fruit, that our leaves will stay green. Thank you that even in the most uncertain times, you are a certain river of living water, sustaining us. We give you thanks and praise for your goodness and mercy. Your love endures forever! Amen.
The Concluding Prayer of the Church
Almighty and everlasting God, you have brought us in safety to the beginning of this day. Preserve us with your mighty power, that we may not fall into sin, nor be overcome with adversity; and in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purposes; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
