Morning Prayer: Cast Your Burdens to God
The Call to Prayer
The righteous cry and YHWH hears them, and delivers them from all their troubles. YHWH is near to the broken-hearted and saves those whose spirits are crushed.
Psalm 34:17-18
The Request for Presence
Be pleased, O God, to deliver me. O YHWH, make haste to help me!
Psalm 70:1
The Greeting
Let your steadfast love, O YHWH, be upon us, even as we hope in you.
Psalm 33:22
The Hymn
Out of my bondage, sorrow and night, Jesus I come; Jesus I come;
into thy freedom, gladness and light, Jesus, I come to thee;
out of my sickness into thy health, out of my want and into thy wealth,
out of my sin and into thy self, Jesus, I come to thee.
Out of my shameful failure and loss, Jesus, I come; Jesus, I come;
into the glorious gain of the cross, Jesus, I come to thee;
out of earth’s sorrows into thy balm, out of life’s storms and into thy calm,
out of distress to jubilant psalm, Jesus, I come to thee.
Out of unrest and arrogant pride, Jesus, I come; Jesus, I come;
into thy blessed will to abide, Jesus, I come to thee;
out of myself to dwell in thy love, out of despair into raptures above,
upward for aye on wings like a dove, Jesus, I come to thee.
Out of the fear and dread of the tomb, Jesus, I come; Jesus, I come;
into the joy and light of thy home, Jesus, I come to thee;
out of the depths of ruin untold, into the peace of thy sheltering fold,
ever thy glorious face to behold, Jesus, I come to thee.

PCC Hymn #193 Out of my bondage, sorrow and night
The Refrain
Cast your burden on YHWH, who will sustain you; God will never permit the righteous to stumble.
Psalm 55:22
A Reading
Jesus said, “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30
The Refrain
Cast your burden on YHWH, who will sustain you; God will never permit the righteous to stumble.
Psalm 55:22
A Reading
Comfort, O comfort my people, says your God.
Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that she has served her term, that her penalty is paid, that she has received from YHWH’s hand double for all her sins.
A voice cries out, “In the wilderness prepare the way of YHWH, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain.
Then the glory of YHWH shall be revealed, and all the people shall see it together, for the mouth of YHWH has spoken.
The grass withers, the flower fades; but the word of our God will stand forever.
He will feed his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms, and carry them in his bosom, and gently lead the mother sheep.
Have you not known? Have you not heard? YHWH is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless.
Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted;
But those who wait for YHWH shall renew their strength,
they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:1-5,8,11,28-31
The Refrain
Cast your burden on YHWH, who will sustain you; God will never permit the righteous to stumble.
Psalm 55:22

The Lord’s Prayer
The Prayer Appointed for the Day
Grant me, O God, not to be anxious about earthly things, but to love things heavenly; and even now, while I am placed among things that are passing away, to hold fast to those that shall endure; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

The Concluding Prayer of the Church
Almighty and everlasting God, you have brought me in safety to the beginning of this day. Preserve me with your mighty power, that I may not fall into sin, nor be overcome with adversity; and in all I do, direct me to the fulfilling of your purposes; through Jesus Christ my Lord. Amen.
